British post-punks RIZTS have returned with their new single, ‘Parasite’. The track acts as a grating critique on man’s relationship with animals, and is coupled with a surreal, memorable video. The band’s sound is an intricate blend of punk, hardcore, dub, grunge and math rock, and this cut is a great representative of their energetic-yet-dark sound. It’s defined by a thick layer of distortion across the guitars, who engage freely with grating dissonances as the rhythmic energy of the tune twists and turns with no real boundaries. The band explains: “The song ‘Parasite’ is written from the nightmarish perspective of an animal like a fox being hunted for pleasure, yet acts as a metaphor for the relationship between humans and animals with humans acting as a parasite to Mother Earth.” The trio’s self-titled album is due for release on October 4th, 2024, via Krautpop!. -Dan Peeke
